Tried Troy Red Farm Krylon Spray Paint
Old to new tool boxes. Krylon spray cans seem to work for me. Tried Dupli-color, Rustoleum, other brands. The Krylon spray tips seem to work better for me. If you have an Ollies Discount near you they charge $2.99 per spray can and have multiple brands. This Krylon Farm can go anywhere from $5.99 to $16.99 for 1 can elsewhere! 3 old toolboxes and 2 are done. Cleaning the hardware with the Dremmel tool and used my pop-rivet gun to reassemble. The Porter Cable is a work in progress and the thrift store charged me $5.00! The Craftsman I got for $7.00 at a local thrift store. This Craftsman toolbox was pretty beat up with about 1/8 rust all over it and a lot of dents and damage. 220 grit and a mask goes here. So back to the paint, this Krylon Troy paint color reminds me of Ferrari Red. Thanks for looking…

Fast Gift Box from Total Wine box…
I found out not all Total Wine Stores are willing to sell their wood wine boxes. There are several in West Palm Beach and when we are traveling through the county I will check the other stores out… Today is Saturday and we just got word late Friday evening that we are invited to a party. So I am making a gift box for our friend… I really threw this together just today – and hope it works out. Total Wine must have used a razor on the top -meeeph – I did get really good coverage on the top with the lacquer to fill up the cuts – just didn’t catch this when I selected it at Total Wine and I didn’t want to sand out the original vineyard printing.

Network Component Box
Starting up a new project to combine all my network into one box.
No Rack at the house so this is just an experiment to see if it will work and get the equipment off the floor under the desk… Still in progress and plenty left to do!
3-28-2021: So today I figured out how to get the grommets to work but this box was found next to the dumpster and is actually just a drawer from a piece of furniture. I am almost thinking to start over because they used pressboard with plastic veneer – it’s just cheap drawer stock. I have this as a mock up I suppose and can make it work but now that I am into this build I have found a few issues that I am working through – All good I suppose. More to follow…So after attempting a few ideas on wire management I drilled this cheap paper pressboard veneer.
4-2-2021: Ok – so Amazon delivered and it was a help – Still plenty more to do and I even had a helper today….
4-8-2021: I found a new RF controller – it’s too funny and I couldn’t resist….
UPDATE – Finally got this done – New Video Below… Thank you…

Wine Crate #7
I think Covid19 has affected the locals here in ways I never would imagine. Prior to Covid I would go to Total Wine and try and find wine boxes. More often than not there were none to be bought. Now they have so many I actually snagged 2 out of their garbage ( Yes, guilty of dumpster diving!) and bought several inside the store.
Their rack is full inside the store!
Here is #7

Wine Crate #6
Another gift to our dear friend. This wine crate was found at Total Wine in Palm Beach Gardens location. It is plain on the outside so far and I have more hardware to install plus more sanding and lacquer the outside. On the inside I created a collage of Ukraine motief for our Ukrainian friend. This is still a work in progress… Enjoy…
More sanding and stain and work the outside finish… It’s an interesting stain to use and still working through how to manage it. I experimented and used a dry brush technique and plus used a brushing technique to get the stain to here. The stain has some qualities that allow more ways to achieve a unique finish. Also added some unique side pieces and decorative tacks…. I plan to use the gold paint on the vineyard letters and emblem.
Still in progress…
A few more adjustments, install the latch, spray matt lacquer and polish the hardware it looks complete… I don’t want to add a handle on this one or embellish the top and like it the way it is. This case is the first case I installed the cigar type hinges. I also use Tim Holtz hardware items. I do hope she likes it…

Wine Crate #5
Wine crate #5 is a present for one of our friends. I used some standard wine label layout and hand carved a vineyard and region into the side of the case – a new technique. I wish I could figure out a laser wood carving system but my attempt was using a dremel tool and ink-jet wax paper transfer. While not perfect it still gets the point across. I also used a pre-sealer on this wood which helped tremendously with the Old Masters Gel Stain – Early American. The Old Masters Gel Stain provides a rich glow to the wood unmatched by other wiping stains. I ordered more of this from my supplier and it will be in next week. In addition to the stain process the top coat on this crate is the Mohawk pre-cat matt lacquer. An inside tray was built out of a drawer I found on one of my “Thrifting” outings (AKA DUMPSTER). Yes two feet in the air sometimes yields great results. Who would think… (shameless plug). Enjoy…

Wine Crate #4
I picked up another one – on Thursday May 16… After some initial sanding and applying a base natural stain I am attempting to create my own “green” stain. Stay tuned… I also discovered a way to transfer images onto wood and will be working through this process… I found this great site here:
